Alissa Crook, ASW

I am originally from Georgetown, CA, but lived in the desert for 20 years before returning to the greater Sacramento area. I attended CSU San Marcos for my BA in Sociology, and CSU Northridge for my Master of Arts in Social work. I earned multiple honor society memberships during my time there, showing my work ethic and dedication to this field. My capstone/thesis focused on the impact of religious abuse on social connectedness. I obtained these degrees later in life after a wealth of real-world experience. I am an ASW (Associate Social Worker) with additional completed coursework in assessing and treating personality disorders.

What I bring to the practice: knowledge of abusers who don’t feel they’re abusers, addicts who don’t feel they’re addicts, and complex trauma. I assist with introspection. I help my clients work on resilience-building, using dialectical approaches for cognitive distortions or maladaptive schema. I focus on creating new schema and setting to achieving small and big goals. The client and I work together on management of their chronic emotional symptoms. I assist in reframing distress responses toward a more objective and goal-oriented stance, additionally instilling and developing appropriate empathy. I see everyone as humans and inherently valuable and good, and people are not what has happened to them; nor are they their past choices.
